Just uploaded Side A of “Divine Manifestation” by the Dever. Good god that took a lot of processing to take out the hissing. I think my copy was something along the lines of 4th or 5th generation! I’m using Sound Forge 8.0, recording at 24-bit @ 44kHz. After running a normalization to maximize peak values, I run a high-pass filter (6kHz and over -> -40 dB) [or 2 in this tapes case] the mix down to 16-bit @ 44kHz 160kbps mp3. For this tape there was also some degradation and I had to do a high-pass filter with the cutoff set to about 2.5kHz, lowering it by about 18 dB. You lose a *little* of the crispness of snare and hihat hits, but it overall sounds a lot better when its played loud like it should be. I’ll have Side B up shortly, methinks.Next on the chopping block after this tape will probably be… The Exorcist, or another live tape that’s several generations copied.
