Customer Service

I’ve written about this before.

Customer Service / Customer Relations is one of the absolute most important things a business can do. When I worked as a server, it was always drilled into our minds that a happy customer tells a handful, but an unhappy customer tells a dozen or more.

I’ve got three stories here, one about good customer service and one about bad, and one that has yet to be resolved.

From the archives: Food Service

My “Day I Left Pennsylvania” led me to some archived website posts (before blogs were invented) I had written many years ago. I’m re-posting them now. Bear in mind that most of the content in this series is over 5 years old. I have left the content more or less intact. I have removed some links and added some others — but that’s it. Enjoy!


In case you haven’t read my AboutMe section (and you should, immediately!) I currently work as a server in a local restaurant. I’ve been in food-service on-and-off for about 5 years now. I’ve held other jobs in between (free-lance graphic designer, computer technician, general laborer, successful international gigolo, and Hot Topic employee), but food service seems to be a job I come up with frequently. I have a feeling it’s due to the lack of professional positions in the mid-west, particularly those available for college students, but I can’t be sure.

Casting off the shackles

family-budgetOn February 1st, I got my W-2’s.

On February 2nd, I filed our family’s taxes.

On February 12th, I got our refund.

On that day, for the first time in 10 years, I became completely liquid-debt free. What a glorious day.

Freeing up the $200-300 / month I was paying (well over the minimum, I was making aggressive payments to pay it off) has allowed us to finally start doing some planning for the future. Read the rest of this entry »
